Weekly Chapter Meetings Partake in the company of other members while listening to various speeches they prepare. These speeches are crafted explicitly for their progression in our club and aim to instill in you lessons and advice based on another perspective. If you are a member, you can have the opportunity to give these speeches, too. In addition, you can look forward to our Table Topics segment, where we will train you in impromptu speaking. This activity challenges you to think on your feet with little to no preparation. Lastly, be enlightened with wisdom while witnessing our Evaluators provide detailed feedback for our prepared speakers. Their advice is sacred to our members as they aid our speakers and members in growing in their journey as public speakers. 2. Joint Chapter Meetings Get the opportunity to network with members of other Toastmasters clubs in Singapore. Often, these clubs will be invited to our Chapter Meetings, or we will be invited to theirs in their institution (Transportation is included). Our aim is for our members to network with other Toastmaster members and learn about the different cultures across the various clubs. 3. Competitions (Club / District / National) Challenge your skills by partaking in competitions that appear two or three times per year. This will be a good opportunity to observe your potential and represent our club. Fret not — our members and mentors will be there to guide you along your journey. 4. Workshops (Internal/External) We have workshops held by Alumni, Lecturers, and external speakers to improve on your aspects of public speaking. Do bring along a notepad, as you would not want to miss anything. 5. Adhoc Events Want some exposure? NTU Toastmasters has a history of hosting workshops for other clubs in NTU. We occasionally invite Distinguished Toastmasters and guest speakers to help as an Evaluator or to give us workshops (speechcraft, body language, etc.). However, on a weekly basis, we have Evaluator roles for members to take, encouraging them to also learn to provide constructive feedback to speeches, pointing out the strength in a speech, as well as areas for improvement.
  • As a member, how do I sign up for roles or speeches?
As a member, you can sign up any time during the semester. Simply drop a message to the VPE or the Education subcommittee members via Telegram private messaging. Alternatively, you may comment on the appointment holders dashboard shared with members.
  • Is it compulsory to give a speech at every meeting?
It is not compulsory to give a speech at every meeting as we want members to progress in their Pathways at a pace that suits their needs and commitments. However, we do recommend members to take on other roles during meetings, such as evaluators, timers, and table-topic masters.
  • How often are speech opportunities given?
There are 4 prepared speech slots given every week, as long as the slots are available, you may take the opportunity to give your prepared speech. Additionally, most of our meetings include a Table Topics segment, where you are encouraged to speak.
  • What do I need to prepare before coming for a chapter meeting?
Typically, members do not need to prepare anything for meetings, except for those taking on roles during the coming meetings. If you are taking on a role, you would need to prepare the materials relevant to the role, such as a speech or table topic questions. Resources for Evaluators and Timers will be provided by the Education subcommittee. However, we do recommend that members step out of their comfort zones and participate in any speaking opportunities during the meeting, such as during the Table Topics segment.
